SeaWorld Cares for Days-old Orphaned Manatee
Orlando, FL (July 25, 2008)

SeaWorld Orlando's Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Center is looking more like a nursery these days after the park rescued their third orphan manatee in two months.

The new female calf - who is two feet long and barely tips the scale at 21 pounds - joins orphans "Desmond" and "Hurley" in the rehab center.

Animal care specialists like Devi Wise are playing the role of doting "parents" as they provide round-the-clock care and feedings.

"We have some bleary-eyed animal care specialists," said Steve Lehr, assistant curator of animal care, "but the pride we take in caring for these animals makes a few hours of lost sleep worth it."
